Dubai Empowers Consumers: File Retail Complaints via WhatsApp with Legal Backing
New Initiative Streamlines Consumer Complaint Process, Enhances Legal Protection in Dubai

Dubai is taking a major step forward in enhancing consumer law enforcement with the launch of a WhatsApp-based complaint system. Soon, residents will be able to file complaints against retailers by simply using the popular messaging platform, making legal recourse faster and more accessible.
The initiative, set to roll out in the second quarter, is spearheaded by the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade (DCCPFT) under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). This marks a significant advancement in Dubai's efforts to uphold consumer law and protect residents' rights through innovative legal solutions.
This AI-driven system will guide consumers through a few questions about their disputes or purchases. By uploading necessary documents—such as invoices and contracts—residents will swiftly receive an official resolution letter on DET letterhead. This legal document can be presented to retailers, obligating them to take corrective action.
Failure by retailers to comply will result in penalties, further reinforcing the legal weight of the complaint process. The system not only simplifies consumer law protection procedures but also strengthens the legal framework by integrating digital tools with established consumer law practices.
The WhatsApp number for submitting complaints will remain the same as the current call centre: 600545555. For accurate legal updates and guidelines, consumers are encouraged to visit the official website: www.consumerrights.ae.
With the rise of consumer law awareness and the demand for quick resolutions, law firms and lawyers in Dubai may also see increased engagement from residents seeking further legal advice or representation on consumer law matters. This move highlights Dubai's commitment to making legal protections more accessible and responsive in a digital era.
